Buddhist Flag & the Six Colours

Back to Introduction
Buddhist flagThe Buddhist flag was designed by Colonel Henry Stell Olcott in 1952. He was inspired by the colours of aura that emulated from the body of Buddha when he attained Enlightenment. The six colours are blue, yellow, red, white, orange and a combination of the former five colours. The flag is vertically divided into six equal parts, filled with each of the six colours. The combination of the six colours represents the different colour skins of all the races around the world. The horizontal stripes in the flag represent all human beings in the world living in harmony. The vertical stripes represent world peace eternally.
