In
the digital age should letters continue to be
written and sent via 'snail mail'? Is communication
all about convenience and speed? What do those
born into a world when "what is your address?"
refers to their email than their abode.
The exhibition Gift
of A Letter explores these questions and
surfaces some of the dilemmas of our modern age.
By questioning our assumptions and providing examples
of letters that provide a glimpse into the power
and pervasiveness of letters in our lives, the
exhibition hopes to encourage people to write
letters (again).
As part of the exhibition, a
group of youths from Raffles Institution were
invited to share their thoughts and perspective
in a project titled Letters in the Digital
Age. The series of short films explore the
meaning of letters and letter writing. Another
group from Xinghua Primary School took up the
challenge of building a robotic snail encouraging
visitors to "Show some Love the Write Way!"
Visitors
are invited to respond to the exhibition in various
ways - vote, pen their thoughts (and excuses),
share a letter, memories and stories and send
a letter affixed with our specially designed stamps
for the exhibition
