| Spring Flowers and Autumn Moon
8 February 2007 - January 2008
Singapore Philatelic Museum
Spring Flowers and Autumn Moon explores the origin and practices of Chinese festivals, through local and international stamps. Posting couplets at doors, paper cuttings on windows, setting off firecrackers, eating bamboo leaf wrapped rice dumplings and viewing the Moon Goddess during mid autumn - most of these customs originated from historical narratives and others are influenced by the seasons which play a major role in determining the way of life of the highly agricultural society in early China.
Learn about the Chinese zodiac cycle and what you can expect for 2007 if you are born in the Year of the Boar. Examine the symbolic meanings of auspicious food and test your ability on the stamp sudoku in this Chinese festivals exhibition.
