Stages and Stamps Exhibition is organised in conjunction with the opening of the Esplanade - Theatre on the Bay and the launch of the stamps to commemorate the opening.

The exhibition is divided into two sections:

2001 Singapore Arts Festival
Theatre and performing arts in Singapore

This section of the exhibition takes you on a journey into the rich cultural life of Singapore and performing arts in Singapore through the prism of the stamps that have been issued since Singapore's independence in 1965. On display are important performance venues in Singapore, cultural performances representing our multi-ethnic society, and Art Festivals are featured on Singapore stamps.

The section takes you on a philatelic journey through the world of theatre and performing arts since the 16th century. This section of the exhibition showcases in five parts famous personalities in theatre and performing arts, as well as the various types of theatre performances in the world. Familiar names commemorated on stamps are playwrights William Shakespeare, Victor Hugo and Andrew Llyod Webber; composers Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Mozart; and stage performers Margot Fonteyn, Sarah Bernhard and Mei Lan-fang. Famous theatre venues such as Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Russia, Royal Opera House of London and La Scala in Milan, Italy are also featured. The last part of the exhibition showcases dances and theatre performances. These displays are supported by Indonesian and Chinese puppets from The Finger Players.

This exhibition is curated by volunteer curator, Mr Johnny Lowis.
