Inspired from the "Undersea World" stamp issue released in March 2006, this exhibition presents information on four sea mammals, and suggests simple things humans can do to protect the mammals and their natural environment. Through the use of exhibition guides, parents can explain information, impart values to the children, and facilitate the acquisition of analysis and reasoning skills. The exhibition is targetted for five to eight year-olds.
Set in a "playroom" setting, the exhibition introduces the Indo-Pacific Bottlenose Dolphin, Indo-Pacific Hump-backed Dolphin, Finless Porpoise and Dugong. Parents can use fact sheets to explain the physical characteristics, habitat, diet, predator and threats, and the mammals' various "states of being" - living free, in captivity, in sanctuaries and as movie stars.
At the discussion wall, children and parents can explore the impact of human activities on marine life and the environment; and SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) of mammals living in the sea and in an oceanarium. The exhibition concludes with simple suggestions on responsible ways to co-exist with these mammals.
Cosy "learning corners" in the exhibition provide children with opportunities for independent learning and exploration at their own comfortable pace and time.
