Vatican City

12 October - 12 November 2006
Singapore Philatelic Museum

This year marks 25 years of diplomatic relations between Singapore and the Holy See. To commemorate this milestone, Singapore Philatelic Museum and Singapore Post Limited are organising an exhibition titled "Vatican City". Through a display of stamps, visitors can find out about the Vatican City: the history, its people, economy and culture.

Vatican City is the world's smallest independent nation (0.44 sq km) - it is about half the size of Orchard Road in Singapore! It is home to St Peter's Basilica, the biggest church in the Christian world. There are about 900 Vatican citizens, and the nation has its own banking system, post office, telephone system, an astronomical observatory and even a pharmacy.
